Trigeneration
Trigeneration, also known as Combined Cooling Heat and Power (CCHP), is an extension of cogeneration that involves the simultaneous production of electricity, heating, and cooling. It integrates the cooling absorption unit that transforms the heat from cogeneration into cold through the absorption process.
CCHP units can be operated wherever heat is in excess and where the produced cold can be used, for example, for air conditioning of production, office, dairies and food industry, and residential premises. CCHP is frequently used to produce heat in winter and cold in summer or simultaneous production of all three. The main advantages of CCHP:
- Effective utilization of heat from the CHP unit, also in the summer.
- Significant cut down of electric power consumption compared to conventional compressor cooling.
- A non-electric source of cold reduces the electrical load during the peak-tariff period.
- Absorption chillers have very low noise, low service demands, and high durability.
